DALLAS–Oct.20, 2010–Saturday evening, Nov. 20, 2010, lovers of two of the most popular writers of all time–C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien, known popularly for the Narnia series and Lord of the Rings–are invited to spend an evening with another Lewis/Tolkien luminary: Peter Kreeft of Boston.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. in Elliott Hall at Highland Park Presbyterian Church, 3821 University Blvd. in Dallas. Tickets are $75. And the evening includes “the most literary silent auction in Dallas.” (To reserve seats, email mdmonse@yahoo.com)

Dr. Kreeft is a professor of philosophy at Boston College and King’s College in New York. The bestselling author’s more than 45 provocative books include “C.S. Lewis for the Third Millennium,” “Celebrating Middle Earth: Lord of the Rings,” “Philosophy of Tolkien,” “Socrates Meets Jesus,” and “How to Win the Culture War.” A speaker in wide demand, he will speak on “Lewis, Tolkien, and the Culture War.”

“For lovers of Lewis and Tolkein–and they seem to multiply with the generations–this is an evening to explore the minds of two of the most fascinating writers of the 20th century,” said Dr. James Patrick, founder and president of The College of St. Thomas More, for which the event raises money. “In this case, Dr. Kreeft has such a large following, he’s nearly as much a draw as the authors we honor.”

The great friendship between Lewis and Tolkien–one Protestant, one Catholic–inspired The College’s ecumenical C.S. Lewis/J.R.R. Tolkien Center for the Common Tradition, which sponsors the annual event.

The College of St. Thomas More, in Ft. Worth’s university district, was founded in 1987 by Dr. Patrick on Lubbock Street, adjacent to TCU. The College offers a classical liberal arts curriculum from the disciplines of literature, philosophy, theology, Latin, and Greek.

The College of St. Thomas More is one of only 21 Catholic colleges and universities recommended in The Newman Guide to Choosing a Catholic College. The Guide, published by The Cardinal Newman Society, recognizes institutions most faithful to their Catholic identity. The College of St. Thomas More is identified in the first tier of eight “Joyfully Catholic” institutions–schools whose embrace of Ex corde Ecclesiae and the Magisterium of the Catholic Church informs every aspect of campus life.

All proceeds benefit the College of St. Thomas More. For event information or to reserve tickets, contact Nancy Lovell at 214-536-2329 or Nancy@Lovell-Fairchild.com or Michelle Monse at MDMonse@yahoo.com
