Not to nitpick, but having grown up in the Baptist General Conference and attended Bethel University for undergrad I feel obliged to correct a small mistake. The BGC should probably not be listed where it is as the BGC, like the EFCA and ECC, was founded by Pietist Swedish immigrants who were a break off of the Swedish Lutheran Church and has not direct relation to English Puritanism at all.

I agree with Michael T. There are a number of denominations like the Evangelical Free Church that have come out of late 19th century revivals and are not linked historically to English Puritanism or Methodism but to other European countries like the Scandinavians and Germans.

I’m also wondering why the Episcopal Church is not listed as a denomination on the right hand side at all.

Thanks for the suggestions. This is obviously a work in progress, so any help correcting, from anyone, would be greatly appreciated.

I also noticed that such denominations as the Free Methodist Church and the Evangelical Methodist Church are not listed. And how about the Church of the Lutheran Brethren?

At first this chart annoyed me because of the missing things/mistakes (at least in my eyes!) but the more I look at the more I like it, especially since I don’t have anything better and am certainly not going to take the time to do one.

    So thanks!

Theological Word of the Day

Canon of Scripture
(Greek kanon, “rule” or “measuring rod”) In Christian theology, the term canon is used to describe the accepted books of the Old and New Testament. Protestants, Catholics, and Orthodox all have the same twenty-seven book New Testament canon, but will differ with regard to the Old Testament canon. Catholics universally accept what are called the [...] continue reading
