OBAMA:
What I believe in is that if I live my life as well as I can, that I will be rewarded. I don’t presume to have knowledge of what happens after I die. But I feel very strongly that whether the reward is in the here and now or in the hereafter, the aligning myself to my faith and my values is a good thing.

5. There is a series going on at “Pillar on the Rock” about Pastors and Practice.

I particularly appreciated this from “What is a Pastor?”

“What’s wrong with calling someone pastor even if you don’t actually know that person?

The issue fundamentally boils down to the meaning of words. The Greek word poimena, in some English versions of the Bible, is translated as “pastor.” The term “pastor,” at one time, maintained the proper meaning of poimena, but now the term is used generally in reference to ministers or clergy. This is unfortunate , because “pastor” no longer points back to its original meaning. For our modern ears, a more helpful translation of poimena is “shepherd.” Pastor means shepherd.”

What does a shepherd do? Well, he shepherds sheep…

7. Roger Olson on why inerrancy does not matter.

“[F]or most of us the word “inerrancy” has become too problematic uncritically to embrace and use. To the untrained and untutored ear “inerrant” always and necessarily implies absolute flawless perfection even with regard to numbers and chronologies and quotations from sources, etc. But even the strictest scholarly adherents of inerrancy kill that definition with the death of a thousand qualifications.”

9. Clark Pinnock died this week.

A man riddled with controversy, but full of grace, Pinnock will be remembered for many things, both good and bad. From where I stand, though I profoundly disagreed with his conclusions about the nature of God, he did help me to solidify my understanding of the issue. For this, I am grateful.
