We will always have the poor (homeless) with us. That is a reflection of the selfishness of sinful, prideful mankind.

But we ought do all we can to do away with it to the extent that we can.

Scott L: "God forbid that OUR theology be challenged by a living God."

Such a statement may be symptomatic of "Theology Avoidance Disorder".

Suggest that you read that post by C. Michael Patton to ensure that you're not infected with that disease.

Very thoughtful post. One I really enjoyed. It brings to mind the many who spend most of their time in prison, and when released into society, feel inadequate and unable to merge into a normal life. You see, it becomes the norm for them in the system, they are told when to wake, when to shower, when to go outside, when to eat, when to socialize. Their lives, in a way, are dictated. They have no idea how to step out of the "box" (cell). Hence, they commit another crime to go "home". Their minds refuse to bend toward freedom.

I'm afraid that is the state of the Church today in so many ways. There is so much thought and concentration on tradition, it seems the Holy Spirit is just an after thought. Where is the power of the Church? Where is the compassion and love? I see so many people being passed by, people in need, not only financially, but mentally, and physically, and emotionally. Isn't that one purpose of the Church? To help these people? I see these people being turned away, I've seen it with my own eyes, it's happened to me personally from my own local assembly. Churches have become inwardly focused, or mission's focused, but what about the people in your own home town? What about the homeless man that sleeps on the stairs leading to your basement? Can you give him a warm meal? Can you show him the love of Jesus?

Sorry for the rant. . .Just loved your post! Really gives people a lot to think about. . .I hope. We need to step outside of our Churches and outside of ourselves, we need to see through the eyes of Jesus sometimes and see what He sees. Maybe even take a look at ourselves through His eyes. What would He say about you and me?

You write an excellent analogy between the two and the site here, in general, feeds me well on a regular basis. In my own 37 year walk in this, however, I have found Truth to possess an identity, one I can experience and know only in part as I go, the journey one wherein Truth meets me with His rod and staff quite frequently. As for my being "homeless", Scripture teaches me that He, too, had no place to lay down His head and the command that came forth was for us to "follow" Him.

I hear a bit of that, though, in what you bring forth here and thank you again for "breakfast" this morning.....
