Seminary Grads (Recent) . . . Need Your Help
by C Michael PattonApril 1st, 2009
I am going to be doing a series of posts about the strengths and weaknesses of many of the Evangelical seminaries. This series will, among other things, help those in their evaluation as they think about attending seminary. I need your help.
Qualifications:
1. You must be a recent graduate of the seminary (you can also be a current professor)
2. You must have the ability to be objective as I send you a list of questions about your seminary. There will be a blog post dedicated to each seminary. For example, some representative questions will be “What do you believe to be among the greatest strengths of your seminary?” “What is your seminary best known for?” “What traditions do your seminary graduates represent?” “What would students say is the biggest problem with the seminary?”
3. You must be ready to have this series of questions completed in a few days after requested.
Who I need:
Any of these…
Gorden-Conwell
Concordia
Talbot
Westminster Theological Seminary
Trinity Evangelical Divinity
Denver Seminary
Reformed Theological
Master’s Seminary
London School of Theology
Dallas Theological Seminary (I will cover this)
Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary
Southern Evangelical Seminary
Fuller Theological Seminary
Bethel Seminary
Calvin Theological Seminary
Asbury Theological Seminary
If you would like to participate, let me know by emailing me at michaelp at reclaimingthemind.org.
If there is a seminary not represented which you think should be, you can post it here.

What about good ol’ Covenant Theological Seminary in St. Louis? My understanding is it is very similar to RTS in Jackson, MS, and that one is on the list. So maybe you didn’t want repetitiveness.

What about a few bones for your Canadian readers. How about reviewing Wycliffe College http://www.wycliffecollege.ca/ and Regent College http://www.regent-college.edu/. It would be especially interesting for your readers to hear about Wycliffe an Anglican Seminary that is affiliated with the University of Toronto but serves the many other Evenjilical denominations.

Two more suggestions what about Yale and Princeton? Both are elite mainline instructions with a reputation for producing orthodox graduates. Yale graduates in particular know for excellent pastoral skills.

How about Criswell College? While it does not have ‘seminary’ in it’s name, it does focus on BA’s, MA’s, and MDiv’s in biblical studies, counseling, philosophy, etc.

CMP,
Do you meet your own qualification on DTS
Referring to the word recent
Didn’t Rhome graduate more recently than you ? Besides, an “outsiders” opinion may be refreshing ? Or I can find someone not affiliated with RMM if you’d like. Let me know how “recent” you’re thinking of.

What was your criteria for determining Seminaries Michael?
I’m suprised to see the absence of Talbot on there considering you have had at least one of their faculty members (J.P. Moreland) on your radio program.

What about a few bones for your Canadian readers? How about reviewing Wycliffe College and Regent College (I don’t know it’s technically a seminary but they do have an M.Div.) It would be especially interesting for your readers to hear about Wycliffe Toronto’s Low Church (Evangelical) Anglican Seminary that is affiliated with the University of Toronto but serves the many other Evangelical denominations as well.

I’m graduating from Providence Theological Seminary (prov.ca) in Manitoba, Canada on April 18th. It’s an evangelical seminary.

Michael L, how can an outsider effectively evaluate the seminary experience specific to the school? I think you’d have to get people that actually went through there, right?

Lisa,
Sorry for the confusion. I was talking about an “outside to RRM or this blog”, not an outsider to DTS.
I live in Dallas. DTS is relatively familiar to me

How much weight do you give to the issue of accreditation?
Tyndale Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, TX is not accredited and
isn’t seeking to do so.
Thoughts….

Don’t know what the criteria for the Seminary selection it, but would like to see Phoenix Seminary in AZ on the list. Many students and graduates are reading this blog regularly.

Michael, what about Moore college in Austrailia?
That would add to the international flavour.

Concordia, perhaps? As a recent newcomer to the blog, I’m not sure if you’d include Lutherans among your definition of “Evangelical”; I note many of the schools already on the list are in the Reformed stream of things.

Concordia is up. Lutherans were the original Evangelicals!

However, I am not getting enough responses to move forward right now.

Michael P. There are a lot of Fuller and Talbot grads at my church (Long Beach, CA). Should I ask if they are interested in participating? Maybe you could make a little flyer for me to print up and hand to them….. if you think you are going to proceed.

Yeah, that would be great. But I can’t believe we don’t have enough here.
I don’t have any type of flyer or anything.

I found it interesting that you included Fuller Theological Seminary considering their new doctrinal statement and am wondering how “evangelical” they really are anymore…:)
