Parchment and Pen Blog CD
Hey folks, I hope you had a great Thanksgiving!
I am trying to see what the interest level is on a new idea. As you probably know, the Parchment and Pen Blog of Reclaiming the Mind Ministries is a theological content blog. This means that the blog is purposed to provide meaningful theological reflection based on provocative blogs that serve as mini articles. In other words, it is not a news blog. It seems to have been well received and has thus become a significant part of our commitment at Reclaiming the Mind Ministries.
Because of this, we are playing with the idea of producing an audio Parchment and Pen CD containing audio recording of the blogs of our authors. This way, people can purchase a CD of the Parchment and Pen blog being read aloud like a book on CD. We may do this monthly or yearly. If we do this, you can purchase the CDs to get caught up on the content of Parchment and Pen or you can give this as a gift to others.
My question is would this be something that you are interested in?Â
Our ministry is a partner based ministry. This means that the majority of our support comes from people like you. Please consider supporting Reclaiming the Mind Ministries as we make theology accessible. Donate today.

CDs aren’t that attractive to me, but others may like them. I prefer MP3 format. What would you do with the blog comments?
You’d probably generate more revenue by offering this as a “free bonus” with a ministry donation over selling it outright. Donors (at least this one) enjoy getting insight into the vision of the ministries they support. That is one reason I read this blog. This approach would also give you an opportunity to include some ministry info on the recording w/o it being viewed negatively as it might be by someone who paid for a product directly rather than receiving it as a thank you bonus.

It’s not something that I’d be interested in but I’m sure you have enough fans of P&P that would purchase such a product.
Just a quick PSA . . . In common blogging language the word ‘blog’ generally refers to the site itself. In this case Parchment and Pen is the ‘blog’. Each individual entry on the ‘blog’ is called a ‘post’ — You and Dan Wallace have a tendency to call ‘posts’ ‘blogs’ and it can be a bit confusing but I guess it’s more of a pet peeve than anything. Just had to get that off my chest

I may be interested in an mp3 version. In fact, that could be made available for download each month for those who would choose to subscribe.

I’d be more interested in a MP3 podcast of the entries.

I live in an area where there is relatively little available in the way of theological discussion, debate, classes etc. Just church. So I put just about anything I can from the Reclaiming the Mind site on CD so I can listen to them in the car which does not play in mp3 format.
I have learned much from all of the various offerings from Reclaiming the mind and have wondered why you dont have more of the audio available in the reclaiming the mind store. Especially the Converse with Scholars and the Theology Unplugged broadcasts. I read the posts on the blog on an irregular basis but would be interested in an audio collection for purchase.

I’d be interested, and like the idea of MP3 format (so I can upload them to my mp3 player). Would previous years be available too?
Thanks,
Mike

I think the mp3 idea is the best one…I don’t think I’d buy a CD.

Yeah, I might go for mp3s. They can be dropped into iTunes, burned to CD for the car, etc.
As an aside, one thing I’d really love to see kept up is the Converse With Scholars series. Seems like there’s a lot of broken links and/or unplayable mp3s. My wife and I will often spend some “wind down” time listening to Theology Unplugged or Converse with Scholars. (We’re nerds.)
Thanks!

I think it’s a great idea. Mp3 or CD.

I think the CD’s would make nice gifts. In fact, I would like to see gift certificates for the courses.

Michael,
CDs or MP3 is fine with me. If it’s CD, I can always download to my IPOD
anyway or I can use it in the car. I love to listen to this type of thing
in the car when I’m driving. Great thought!

I personally wouldn’t be interested in buying them…
However, if I did buy something, it would be a talk about theology only. I’m interested in Theology Unplugged, and IMHO getting that kind of thing on CD is the most important. I’m not sure if you already have that kind of content available on CD.
