I finally listened to this broadcast, and one thing struck me about his being able to continue to hold to the statement of faith. The statement says that the Bible is the only Word of God “written”. I can definitely see many Catholics being comfortable with this because they would see tradition as not necessarily as a “writing”, even though assuredly it is written somewhere. This concept of it being God’s Word “written” could be seen to distinguish it from other “writings” claiming to be God’s inspired Word, such as the Book of Mormon or the Koran.
Just a thought.
